The use of discarded materials: layers of gib boards, broken wood slats and functional nailing patterns are a continuation of my research into assemblage in a painting practice. Through the act of salvaging these materials from the Auckland floods in January 2023 and allowing structural integrity to guide my hand, the series conveys the powerlessness of our human condition against the unleached natural elements.
